Deer at Night

engine repairs on a car

We live in the country and are well aware of the wildlife on the roads at night.

For all the years we have lived here, we have been pretty lucky.

But we aren’t usually out on the roads much at night either.

My son was driving his girlfriend home last Wednesday night about 10:15.

Not more than five minutes after he left we received a call from him.

Just a couple miles from the house, on the main road, he had hit a deer.

Quite shaken and very upset, he had pulled over to the side of the road, but the deer was also there and was still alive but unable to walk.  I think this upset him the most.

We told him to call the police and we headed out to him.

My husband had the forethought to grab a broom, and it was a good thing - glass was everywhere.

How he managed to get it swept up in the darkness with cars flying by at over 50 miles an hour is a miracle to me.

We managed to get everything taken care of with the police and the deer and the job of fixing this “beloved Jeep” is in the works.

It should be fine after a couple of weeks and a pocketful of his hard earned cash.

A good lesson about the unexpected for him, and the best part - they were both physically fine.

A good thing for all of us to be thankful for!
