Starlings in the Balkans
We watched the Nature show on PBS again, and I just had to share this one with you.
Check out that photo - do you have any idea what it is of?
The episode was about the Wild Balkans and it featured the most beautiful wildlife and photography of the rare animals and landscapes in this wild land.
The very end of the show captured the day’s end along the Danube Delta with the sun going down over the water.
The videographers were in a boat with an unobstructed view, and along the horizon we watched as a dark shape rose and fell, shifting it’s pattern and shape the entire time.
One minute you think it is smoke, rising gracefully and wispy across the sky, then the whole shape changes in a second and becomes a thick dark cloud that spreads out along the tree tops.
Over and over again the shape changes - not missing a beat.
Art work in the sky that is created by a huge flock of Starlings.
Birds that number in the tens of thousands, all flying in unison, never once colliding or being out of place in their creation as they bid adieu to the day.
After their splendorous exhibition, they finally settle down in the trees for the night.
If you get a chance to view this episode - you will not be disappointed!

That must have been a great sight; paintings in the sky.
