Website Upgrades

screwdrivers in a toolbox

Finally took the plunge today and did some necessary upgrades to the website.

Before I started, I did a lot of reading about how to go about it.

The software website had all kinds of instructions to follow that seemed a bit intimidating as I read through them.

I started with their instructions and did all the necessary backups.

After reading the next couple of steps, I thought there must be an easier way to do this.  Deleting all my old files and uploading new ones really scared me to no end.

I found a plug-in that promised it could handle automatically updating the software, but when I read the forums regarding the problems people were having with it, it scared me even more.

There was one suggestion in the forums that mentioned they were glad that their hosting company offered a one-step process that only took a minute and it handled it all smoothly.

Well, off I went in search of this option with my webhost.

And I was very lucky to find that they offered this feature.

It went very smoothly for me also, and it took only a few minutes to complete.  They also offered a roll back option if there were any problems with the upgrade.

After checking that all was fine with the site, I proceeded to update all the plug-ins, one at a time in case there was any problem with them too.

I am quite pleased to have everything updated now, and next time I won’t procrastinate about it - it was a very simple process after all.
